Kensington!!!

Hello everybody!

Qué os puedo decir? Ha sido un cumpleaños maravilloso, el viernes por la noche tuvimos una velada fantástica con mi hija, su novio, mi marido y yo. Y el sábado más de 5 horas en la feria de Kensington.

Llegamos a las 11.30 de la mañana, y salimos a las 5.30 de la tarde, menos una hora que tomamos para almorzar, fueron muchas horas disfrutando de tantas maravillas. 

What can I tell you? It was a wonderful birthday, Friday night we had a fantastic evening with my daughter, her boyfriend, my husband and I. And on Saturday more than 5 hours at the Kensington fair.

We arrived at 11.30 in the morning, and left at 5.30 in the afternoon, minus one hour we had for lunch, there were many hours enjoying so many wonders.

Al llegar el sitio estaba muy lleno y os confieso que estaba un poco abrumada, me asomaba a los puestos que podía porque en casi todos había mucha gente y era muy difícil acercarse. Asombrosamente no estaba impaciente, más bien como en estado de shock jaja y decidí tomarlo con calma y acercarme allí donde pudiese sin agobiarme si iba en orden, si podía ver todas las mesas o no y por supuesto no olvidé pedir permiso para tomar fotos. En la mañana compré muy poco y luego de almorzar decidí dedicarme a comprar algunas cosillas que quería, y algún capricho, observar más detenidamente y olvidarme de las fotos, así que seguramente faltan muchos expositores en esta crónica. No sé puede hacer todo, soy pésima para hacer varias cosas a la vez jaja.  La tarde ya estuvo más tranquila y pude dedicarme a ello y observar con más detenimiento. Sin embargo creo que me faltaron algunas mesas por ver, pero el balance final es súper positivo.

When I arrived the site was very crowded and I have to confess that I was a little overwhelmed, I took a look at the stands I could as in most of them there were many people making very difficult to approach them. Surprisingly I was not impatient, rather like in a state of shock lol, so I decided to take it easy and go where I could without worrying if I was going in order, if I could see all the tables or not and of course I did not forget to ask permission to take photos. In the morning I bought very little and after lunch I decided to buy some things I wanted, and maybe some treats, to observe more carefully and forget about the photos, so surely there are many exhibitors missing in this chronicle. I couldn´t do everything, I am lousy at multitasking lol. The afternoon was quieter and I was able to focus and observe more closely. However I think I missed some tables, but the final balance is super positive.

Describir la feria es muy difícil, no paraba de decirle a mi marido, quien me acompaño estoicamente todo el tiempo, lo feliz y agradecida que estaba. Me sentía como la más mimada de las niñas. David fue una compañía inmejorable, y se ganó muchos puntos, le debo uno o dos favores grandes.

A pesar de todo, tomé muchas fotos, unas mejores que otras. Y sin más preámbulos dejo que las imágenes hablen por sí solas. Buscad un té o café y sentaos, son más de 100 fotos!!

Describing the fair is very difficult, I kept telling my husband, who accompanied me stoically all the time, how happy and grateful I was. I felt like the most spoiled of the girls. David was an excellent company, and he earned many golden points, I owe him one or two big favours.

In spite of everything, I took many photos, some better than others. And without further ado I let the images speak for themselves. Find a tea or coffee and sit down, they are more than 100 photos !!

Se acerca Navidad/ Christmas is coming

Hola!

No he hecho muchos avances en la casa de Tulio y Carmen por estar ocupada con otros menesteres. Esto es lo avanzado hasta ahora:

I have not made much progress in Tulio and Carmen´s house as I have been busy making other things. This is the progress so far:

He terminado de empapelar y poner la moldura que divide los papeles. Me gusta como va quedando pero es obvio que es necesario poner rodapiés y molduras en el techo.

I have finished wallpapering and putting the moulding that divides the papers. I like how it looks, but it is obvious that it is necessary to put skirting boards and mouldings on the ceiling.

En la cocina he hecho la nevera, y no ha quedado mal, pero no abre. No me apetecía complicarme la vida y no tengo miniaturas guardadas para rellenarla. Como ya lo hice para la cocina de Rita (una nevera llenita de alimentos), no lo vi necesario en este caso. Todavía no he decidido el color, la nevera de mi casa de la infancia era verde y la de mi abuela creo blanca, he de pensarlo. También falta terminar el horno, botones, etc., pero ya he puesto el grifo del fregadero.

In the kitchen I made the fridge, and it´s not bad, but it does not open. I didn't feel like complicating my life and I don't have miniatures saved to fill it. As I already did it for Rita's kitchen (filled a fridge with loads of food), I didn't see it necessary in this case. I still have not decided the color; the fridge in my childhood´s house was green and I think my grandmother's was white, I have to think about it. I also need to finish the oven, buttons, etc., but I have made the faucet.

Y este año me ha picado el gusanillo de la Navidad. El año pasado tuve la suerte de recibir muchas minis navideñas y quiero aprovecharlas y darles un lugar especial.

And this year the Christmas bug has bitten me. Last year I was lucky enough to receive many Christmas minis and I want to make the best of them and give them a special place.

Esta idea me llamó mucho la atención buscando inspiración en la web. Una ventana falsa, a modo de estantería, decorada con motivos navideños. Aquí utilicé una ventana que ya tenía.

Y esto me llevó a hacer otra, en un estilo un poco vintage, solo por probar. Esta ventana sí la hice de cero y se nota, pero es vintage!! vedla:

This idea caught my attention looking for inspiration on the web. A false window, as a shelf, decorated with Christmas ornaments. Here I used a window that I already had.

And this led me to do another one, in a slightly vintage style, just to try. I did this window from scratch and it shows, but it's vintage !! See it:

A mí me ha parecido muy mona y creo que es original y puede adornar algún rinconcillo. Os gusta?

It seems very cute to me and I think it is original and can decorate some corner. Do you like it?

También me puse a hacer pruebas con esas "mesillas" que vienen con las pizzas. Solo fue buscar imágenes en Internet, darles el diámetro adecuado (4 cm) y voila! Hice varios motivos.

I also started testing with those "tables" that come with pizzas. It was just a matter of looking for images on Internet, giving them the right diameter (4 cm) and voila! I made a few with different motifs.

Hay mesillas infantiles reales, muy parecidas, las habéis visto?

There are very similar real children's tables, have you seen them?

Y aquí ya las pueden ver colocadas. A lo mejor a alguno le entusiasma la idea.

And here you can see them placed. Maybe someone is excited about the idea.

Sigo con mis enredos navideños. Una cosa llevó a la otra y de la ventana pasé a una caja de vinos que poco a poco voy decorando.

I continue with my Christmas experiments. One thing led to another and from the window I went to a wine box that I am slowly decorating.

Qué os parece? Todavía no la termino, pero tiempo hay. Ya os mostraré el resultado final con todas las minis que recibí el año anterior.

Tengo más cosas que contaros, estoy muy emocionada porque mañana me voy de viaje a Londres por unos días, ya sabéis que cada tanto vamos a visitar a nuestra familia allí. Pues esta vez he logrado organizar las cosas de tal modo que podré visitar la Feria de Miniaturas de Kensington!!! Ahhh, todavía no me lo puedo creer, no sé si podré comprar algo, creo que los artesanos que van son tan TOP que a lo mejor excede mi presupuesto, pero estoy segura que al menos voy a poder deleitarme contemplando muchas maravillas. Ya os contaré a mi regreso.

I have more things to tell you, I'm very excited because tomorrow I'm going to London for a few days, you know that every so often we visit our family there. Well, this time I have managed to organize things in such a way that I can visit the Kensington Dollshouse Festival!!! Ahhh, I still can't believe it, I don't know if I will be able to buy anything, I think that the artisans that go there are so TOP that it might exceeds my budget, but I'm sure that at least I will be able to be delighted admiring many wonderful miniatures. I'll tell you on my return.

Y por último, sabéis algunos que tengo la tradición de hacer un pequeño sorteo por mi cumpleaños, pues bien cumplo el 29 de este mes 50 años!!! Tampoco lo puedo creer, si me siento de 25 jeje, pero bueno aunque no habrá grandes celebraciones, celebraré con mi hija menor e iré a Kensington, me doy por bien servida.

And finally, some of you know that I have the tradition of making a small giveaway for my birthday, well, I turn 50 on the 29th this month. 50! Nor can I believe it, I feel 25 LOL, but although there will be no big celebrations, I will celebrate with my youngest daughter and will go to Kensington, so I consider myself well served.

Avances en la casa de Tulio y Carmen/ Progress in Tulio and Carmen´s house

Hola!!

Hoy os traigo algunos avances en la casita de Tulio y Carmen. Me hubiese gustado traeros más pero no he avanzado tanto como quisiera y si espero, llegará diciembre y yo sin actualizar el blog.

Today I bring you some progress of Tulio and Carmen´s house. I wanted to bring you more but I have not advanced as much as I wanted and if I wait, December will come without updating the blog.

En la foto de arriba veréis mis planes para esta cocina.

En estas fotos podéis apreciar los suelos y paredes que escogí, más la puerta que conduce al salón.

In the photo above you can see my plans for this kitchen.

And in these photos you can see the floors and walls I chose, plus the door that leads to the living room.

Como veis, los colores son lo mío. No puedo evitarlo.

As you can see, colours are my thing. I cannot help it.

Arriba buscando la distribución adecuada con muebles de prueba. Abajo empiezo a hacer el mueble fregadero-cocina. Hecho por mí.

In the photo above I was looking for the appropriate distribution with temporary furniture. Below I start to make the kitchen sink. It´s made by me.

Esta puerta no es real, es decir no abre, pero creo que he logrado casi, casi, que lo parezca, o solo me parece a mí? jeje.

This door is not real, it does not open, but I think I managed to make it look (almost) real or does it only seem real to me? Lol.

Así va quedando la cocina a falta de hacer la nevera. La que veis aquí es la nevera de mi casa bohemia, soy muy visual y debo ir poniendo cosas para imaginar el espacio. La definitiva será un poco más alta y en un color diferente.

This is how the kitchen is looking so far, in the absence of the fridge. What you see here is the fridge of my bohemian house, I am very visual and I have to put things to imagine the space. The final fridge will be a little higher and in a different colour.

Como os dije, el fregadero lo he hecho de cero, aquí faltan todavía cosas, pero os podéis hacer una idea.

As I told you, I've done the sink from scratch, things are still missing here, but you can get an idea.

En cuanto al salón, también he hecho algunas cosillas. Os muestro.

As for the living room, I have also done some things. Let me show you.

Un papel antiguo y una combinación un poco extravagante, pero ya os había dicho que a Carmen le gustan ese tipo de cosas. No he terminado de empapelar porque se me acabó el papel y debo imprimir más.

An old fashion wallpaper and a slightly extravagant combination, but I had already told you that Carmen likes that kind of thing. I have not finished wallpapering because I ran out of paper and I have to print more.

Arriba podéis ver la puerta del salón a la cocina, exactamente igual a la de la cocina, se supone que es la misma puerta jaja. También podeis apreciar el efecto escalera que os conté en la entrada anterior.

Above you can see the door from the living room to the kitchen, exactly like that of the kitchen, it is supposed to be the same door lol. You can also appreciate the staircase effect that I told you in the previous entry.

Y aquí ya se ve el suelo, un suelo de madera que me parece quedó muy bonito. Lleva trabajo porque hay que cortar las tiras una por una. Digo tiras porque no son listones de madera. Es papel de empapelar imitación madera. Me libra de tener que cortar madera, que cuento con pocas herramientas y me parece que queda bien. Al final lo haré brillar un poco más.

And here you can see the floor, a wooden floor that I think looks beautiful. It takes some work because I had to cut the strips one by one. I say strips because they are not wooden slats. It is imitation wood adhesive-paper. This way I avoid cutting wood as I have few tools and I think it looks good. In the end I will make it shine a little more.

Planeando ando/ Planning stage

Hola!!

Esta etapa de planeación ha resultado larga y complicada. Que difícil me resulta tomar decisiones! He demorado en hacer esta entrada porque no tenía nada nuevo que contaros ni mostraros pues no decidía qué hacer.

Esta casa tiene buen tamaño, no es muy grande ni tampoco pequeña, pero no tiene pasillos y las escaleras son muy feas, no corresponden con la realidad. Antes no me importaba omitir escaleras, puertas, etc. Pero con el tiempo me da cierta incomodidad que mis casas no sean realistas.

Me muevo entre pensar que son casas de muñecas, no modelos a escala real y puedo hacer lo que me apetece o en la necesidad de ajustarme a la realidad en lo posible, ahhggggg, a veces no puedo dormir!! jajaj.

This planning stage has been long and complicated. How difficult it is for me to make decisions! I have delayed making this entry because I had nothing new to tell or to show you because I could not decide what to do.

This house has a good size, it is not very big nor small, but it has no corridors and the stairs are very ugly, they do not correspond to reality. Before, I didn't mind skipping stairs, doors, etc. But over time, it gives me some discomfort that my houses are not realistic.

I move between thinking that they are doll houses, not real-scale models and I can do whatever I want or needing to adjust to reality as much as possible, ahhggggg, sometimes I can't sleep! hahaha


Otra cosa es el estilo de la casa, ya sabéis, es la casa de Carmen y Tulio, dos abuelos a los que les voy creando una historia. Tulio era médico y director de un hospital, Carmen un ama de casa que se dedicaba a administrar el hogar y a hacer de relacionista pública de su marido. No eran ricos mucho menos millonarios pero sí lo que se decía en esas épocas, "pudientes". Carmen, de orígenes mas bien humildes, siempre fue muy avispada y ambiciosa en el buen sentido y al casarse con un "doctor" subió en la escala social y esto por supuesto le encantaba.

Su casa tiene que mostrar esto. Una casa de las de antes, con muebles de estilo clásico pero "buenos" y con una decoración que mostrara su "prestancia". A Carmen le encanta estar siempre muy bien puesta y arreglada y  además es un pelín "extravagante" fruto de su gusto por tener ciertas cosas al crecer en un medio social en el que no le faltaba nada pero no había lujos.

Esta casa, espero, mostrará lo que les digo y será reflejo de Tulio y Carmen.

Y con esto. dejo mi historia y os muestro mis precarios avances.

Another thing is the style of the house. You know, this is Carmen and Tulio´s house, two grandparents to whom I am creating a story. Tulio was a doctor and the director of a hospital, Carmen, a housewife who used to run the home and act as her husband´s public relationist . They were not rich much less millionaires but "wealthy." Carmen, of rather humble origins, was always very lively and ambitious in a good way and when she married a "doctor" she climbed the social ladder and this of course she loved.

Their house has to show this. An old house, like those from the past, with classic style furniture but of good quality and with a decoration that will show their "status". Carmen loves to always look smart and at her best and is also a bit "extravagant" with a desire for having certain things as a result of growing in a social environment in which she lacked nothing but there were no luxuries.

This house, I hope, will show that and will reflect Tulio and Carmen.

And with this. I leave my story and show you my precarious advances.

La 2ª planta es abuhardillada, lo cual ya saben limita demasiado el espacio. Esta será la habitación de la pareja y debe ser amplia, por lo cual he decidido modificar la parte trasera, insertando paredes y subiendo el tejado. Lo que veis es una simulación de como será el proceso más o menos y la ubicación posible de los muebles.

The 2nd floor is an attic,as you already know it limits the available space a lot. This will be the couple's room and should be spacious, so I decided to modify the back, inserting walls and rising the roof. What you see is a simulation of how it will be more or less and the possible location of the furniture.

Esto es una vista general de las modificaciones estructurales que pienso hacer. Me explico:

This is an overview of the structural modifications I plan to make, let me explain:

En el salon-comedor las escaleras irán al fondo e irán cubiertas por una pared así:

In the dinning room the stairs will go at the back and will be covered by a wall like this:

He decidido ocultar las escaleras de esta forma, sugiriendo que están allí y no mostrándolas del todo porque en la planta siguiente no tengo espacio suficiente para ponerlas. De esta forma creo se soluciona el problema y puedo omitirlas arriba.

I have decided to hide the stairs in this way, suggesting they are there and not showing them completely because on the next floor I do not have enough space to put them. This way I think the problem is solved and I can skip them above.

La cocina. Los muebles de atrás no son los muebles que van, pero esta es la idea de como irán distribuidos. En la pared medianera irá una puerta que comunica con el salón comedor.

The kitchen. The furniture at the back is not the furniture I´ll use, but this is the idea of how they will be distributed. A door that connects to the dining room will go on the common wall.

El baño va en la 1ª planta y esta será la distribución. La bañera ira en alto, a la que se accederá con unos escalones. Es probable que también ponga un arco para delimitar y hacer más privada la zona de la bañera. En la pared medianera irá una puerta que comunica con el salón.

The bathroom goes on the 1st floor and this will be the distribution. The bathtub will be risen, and it  will be accessed with a few steps. It is likely that I will put an arch to delimit and make the bathtub area more private. On the common wall will go a door that communicates with the living room.

Este es el salón. Si pongo escaleras tengo que poner el descansillo de las de abajo y luego las que suben a la 2ª planta, y no hay espacio para esto!! Por lo tanto mi solución arquitectónica, jaja, es simular el hueco de las escaleras con dos paredes falsas al fondo que irán hasta arriba, las que veis aquí son solo para ver el efecto.

This is the lounge. If I put stairs I have to put the landing of the ones from the ground floor and then those going up to the 2nd floor, and there is no room for this! Therefore, my architectural solution, lol, is to simulate the stairwell with two false walls at the back, the walls you see here are temporary, just to see the effect.
