De suelos/ Flooring

Hola!

I tried to write this post before, but I really have little to show. I thought that with this house I would move more quickly as all the walls are white, no wallpaper or texture. How wrong I was!

Painting the walls has taken me many days. I'm painting with a brush because I do not have an open space wide enough to spray paint without fear of splashing unwanted places; constant rains and the need to let dry and sand after each coat of paint, have made this  task endless. I have already applied, I think, 4 or 5 coats of paint and I still think that I need one more, well, it is what it is.

What I have finished is the kitchen´s floor. My idea was to make a concrete floor, which is trendy now,  looking a bit industrial and also old.

The inspiration came from Jennifer's miniatures, this girl is an ARTIST with capital letters. She makes beautiful things and the best part is that she is so generous that she publishes very detailed and well explained tutorials of all her projects. It is worth following her,  you can find her on facebook, I am giving you the link.

This is the wonderful floor I wanted to try, isn´t it from another world?

I followed her tutorial step by step. I´ll show you photos of the steps I followed, but although in English, she explains it far more better.

I tried to follow the steps as closely as possible, however I did not have enough textures to apply, some metal templates, beads etc. But I did not have stamps or moldings. What I found best were the templates and pieces of lace. This is what came out.

Then I applied several layers of paint, trying to find the color I was looking for, a gray with brown flashes.

I gave a coat of sealant and varnish before applying the putty to avoid damaging the paint. Then, I filled the joints with putty. In my case it was quite cumbersome, as the putty needs to be removed carefully with a damp cloth and the one I used left a lot of residue, so I had to clean up a lot. Thank goodness I protected the painting. Another thing I learned is that  the tiles need to be cut a little more, to leave more space between them. They would have looked better I think. My final result:

Do you like it? I know it's not as pretty as the original, but I like it. I think that for the first time it is not so bad.

Another thing I have done is to change the surface of the kitchen furniture. The intention was to give it a granite stone finish. Neither is perfect, but it´s not so bad and I like it. Although I have an idea in mind on how to improve the effect, we'll see.

So as not to lose the habit, here there are more photos of how the kitchen is taking shape, but there is still a long way to go.

Una vez pegado el suelo.
Once the floor is glued.

Have not you asked yourself what the first picture is about? I'll tell you, in November I have the tradition of having a giveaway for my birthday. And that´s it, the small Christmas tree decorated and with lights is my lastest work for my next birthday giveaway. Do you want to see it with lights on?

So the usual thing, to participate be a follower of this blog and leave a comment on this post. On the 29th I will make the draw among those who sign up. I hope you like it. After doing it, I almost regret it. I wanted to keep it LOL. But no, the giveaway and my followers go first. 😊

Ahora sí, es todo por ahora, nos vemos pronto/ Ok, it's all for now, see you soon.

Un abrazo.
Alex

  13. Hi Alexandra! I Love your little tree and would love to be in your Giveaway! That is very generous of you! :)
As for the floor, I think it looks wonderful! I have not seen that method of making textures for the stones and think it worked out very well! It looks like a "blue stone" slate floor to me! And I know how you feel... painting takes so much longer than you think it will! Keep up the great work! :):)

  19. Happy Birthday to you - congratulations for this special day but also for your kitchen floor. It turned out awesome… and is just perfect for your modern theme. The granite looking parts fit so well and all of this looks stunning together, I would not say no to having such a kitchen in RL! You made me smile with your painting adventures… sounds so familiar. Here comes the motivational talk: You will be glad for every single coat once you'll be looking at your beautiful walls. And thanks for offering such a lovely giveaway… the Christmas tree looks beautiful. But please forgive me that I won't participate this time, I already have so many Christmas trees that it would come to the wrong place - this is the season of giving so I'm giving my chance away to somebody else! ;O)

    Hugs

Te llevo a mi blog.
    Besico!

You are truly generous, as that tree is just marvelous and it must be so hard to part with! Please DO NOT enter me in the draw, as I already am blessed with a Christmas house, so it should go to someone else.
Great work and I'm excited to see more!!!
