El jardín I/ The garden I

Hola!!

Como ya les había contado, le toca el turno al jardín. Las plantas, jardines, invernaderos, etc, son de las cosas que más me gustan en mini, siento fascinación por ellas y es de lo que más hago en mini.

As I already told you, it is time to make the garden. Plants, gardens, greenhouses and such, are one of the things that I like the most in miniature, I am fascinated by them and that is what I do most in mini.

Quiero que el jardín de la casa de Rebeca esté rodeado de un muro de piedra (ya os contaré, en otra entrada, mis aventuras y desventuras con esta idea) y que no sea muy prolijo, más bien un poco descuidado, que Rebeca ya está mayor y su pensión de viudez no alcanza para contratar servicios de jardinería, así que hace lo que puede y esto tiene que notarse en su jardín.

I want  Rebecca's house garden to be surrounded by a stone wall (I will tell you, in another entry, my adventures and misadventures with this idea), a garden that it is not very neat, rather a little careless. Rebecca is a senior and her widow's pension is not enough to hire gardening services, so she does what she can and her garden must reflect that.

Con esta idea empecé por el césped./ With this idea in mind I started working on the grass.

Hice una mezcla de los materiales que muestro a continuación, los cuales conseguí principalmente en las conocidas tiendas orientales.

I made a mixture of the materials I am showing below, which I got mainly in the well-known "oriental" shops. (Here in Spain they are shops with a great variety of cheap goods and managed by people from China) 

Algunas piedrillas, que no sé cómo conseguí y esta es la mezcla/ Some pebbles, that I don´t remember how I got. This is the mixture:

Hasta pelos de gato hay!! perdonadme, pero ya me he rendido, estoy condenada a encontrar pelo de gato en  todas partes.
There are cat hairs !! forgive me, but I've given up, I'm doomed to find cat hair everywhere.

Luego de poner pegamento y cubrir la superficie con la mezcla, puse un poco de flower soft aquí y allá y este es el resultado.
After adding glue and covering the surface with the mixture, I put a little flower soft here and there and this is the result:

Me encantó, me parece que quedó muy realista y natural./ I love it, I think it looks very real and natural.

Olvidé decir que el jardín es un jardín removible, puesto que de otra manera no se podría abrir la fachada delantera de la casa. Todo está construido sobre una lámina de madera cortada a la medida y encajada a la casa y que se puede quitar y poner a gusto para poder abrir la casa y ver su interior.

I forgot to mention that the garden is a removable garden, otherwise the front facade could not be opened. Everything is built on a sheet of wood, cut to size and fitted to the house, that can be removed to open the house and see the inside.

Lo primero que he hecho es una jardinera con ladrillos, los cuales envejecí con muchas capas de pintura de diferentes colores para darles el aspecto de que han estado allí mucho tiempo y han sufrido los embates del tiempo y los elementos.

The first thing I have done is a brick planter, which I aged with many layers of paint of different colours, to give it the appearance that it has been there a long time and has suffered the effects of time and elements.

Así eran/ They bricks looked like this:

Empecé por la jardinera izquierda. Como quiero que se vea descuidado y natural he decidido que utilizaré variedad de materiales y no solo plantas en papel hechas por mí, pues me da la impresión que si solo utilizara un tipo de material se vería un poco menos natural.

I started with the left planter. Since I want it to look careless and natural, I have decided that I will use a variety of materials and not just paper plants made by me, as it gives me the impression that if I only used one type of material it would look a little less natural.

Como nos pasa a todas las que compatimos este hobby, tengo muchas cosas guardadas por si acaso. Les muestro mis intentos de hacer plantas con diferentes elementos.

As it happens to all of us who share this hobby, I have many things stored just in case. Let me show you my attempts to make plants with different elements:

Pintura y un poco de flower soft/ With paint and a little bit of flower soft:

Tenía unas flores muy feas, las cuales no sabía que hacer con ellas y se me ocurrió pintarlas.
I had some very ugly flowers, and for a while I did not know what to do with them so it occurred to me to paint them:

Me parece a mí que quedan unos girasoles muy aparentes/ I think they make very decent sunflowers:

Va tomando forma/ It is taking shape:

Seguí buscando material aquí y allá e hice algunas plantas. La lavanda es una de mis favoritas y también hice una Hosta pues quería ver si podía hacerla pues no es muy complicada.

I kept looking for materials here and there and made some plants. Lavender is one of my favourite plants and I also made a Hosta, I wanted to see if I could do it as it is not very difficult.

Me encantaría algún día hacer una hiedra desde cero. Sin embargo, los tutoriales que he visto me atemorizan, seguramente algún día la intentaré pero por lo pronto se me ocurrió recortar la forma de las hojas de hiedra en unas ramas plásticas que tenía y luego dar pintura en  los bordes.

One day I would love  to make an ivy from scratch. However, the tutorials I have seen frighten me, surely one day I will try but for the moment I had the idea to cut the shape of the ivy leaves on some plastic branches that I had and then paint the edges.

Falta mucho por hacer todavía en este jardín, pero me doy por satisfecha con los avances. ¿Qué os parece? ¿Os gusta?

There is still a lot to do in this garden, but I am pleased with the progress. What do you think? Do you like it?

Una Glicina/ A Wisteria plant

Espero que hayan tenido un buen descanso y  una buena Semana Santa.

Como dije en la entrada anterior, he decidido hacer un jardín. Lo primero que he hecho es intentar hacer una glicina pues el techado de vigas del invernadero amerita una enredadera. En mi casa Andaluza y mi casa Bohemia, tengo enredaderas en pérgolas, hechas con musgo, algunas hojas, flores y flower soft, pero me apetecía en esta ocasión hacer una planta a la que pudiese identificar. Además de que la glicina es una planta preciosa.

As I said in the previous post, I have decided to make a garden. The first thing I have done is trying to make a wisteria because I think that the greenhouse  beams deserve a climbing plant. In my Andalusian and bohemian  house  I have climbing plants in pergolas. They are made with moss, some leaves, flowers and  flower soft, but this time I wanted to make a plant that I could identify. In addition to that the wisteria is a beautiful plant.

He hecho 2 glicinas con anterioridad. La que ven en la foto, que pertenece a una terracita que hice hace unos 2 años en una caja de vinos. Os muestro:

I have made two glycines before. The one  you see in the photo below belongs to a terrace I made about 2 years ago in a wine box. See:

La puerta y ventanas, las repisas, todas las plantas aparte de la maceta inferior derecha con flores de fimo, la jarra, el candil, la corona y la tetera fueron hechas por mí. También hice el suelo y tuneé el juego de sillas y mesa. Disfruté mucho haciendo esta escena y aun a día de hoy, la veo muy bonita y con muy pocos defectos.

The door and windows, the shelves, all the plants apart from the pot with fimo flowers at the bottom right corner, the jug, the lantern, the wreath and the teapot were made by me. I also made the floor and painted the set of chairs and table. I enjoyed making this scene and even today, I think is beautiful and with very few defects.

También hice una glicina para Caro. A ella le gustó la que hice y me pidió una para su casa mediterránea. ¿Adivinen qué me envió a cambio? La estructura de la casa mediterránea!! ¿Se imaginan? Yo por supuesto le envié otras cosillas pero nada en comparación. Carolina es muy generosa. Hoy su casa, es mi casa bohemia, la cual creo es mi casa favorita.

I also made a wisteria for Caro. She liked the one I made and she wanted one for her Mediterranean house. Guess what she sent to me in return? The structure of the Mediterranean house! Can you imagine? Of course I sent her other things but nothing in comparison. Carolina is very generous. Today her house is my bohemian house, which I think is my favorite house.

Los narcisos y la casita de pájaros también son hechos por mí. Creo que a Caro le gustó, aunque es todavía el trabajo de una principiante.

The daffodils and the bird house are also made by me. I think Caro liked it, although it's still a beginner's job. 

Me gustaron estas plantas, las flores las hice con flower soft, que es un material muy útil, bonito y que te ahorra un montón de trabajo. Sin embargo, soy consciente que se pueden mejorar mucho, y eso he tratado de hacer en esta ocasión.

I liked these plants,  I made the flowers with flower soft, which is very useful, beautiful and saves you a lot of work. However, I am aware that I can improve a lot, and that I have tried to do on this occasion. 

Sobre todo he querido que las flores tengan una caída más natural y se vean más las florecillas individuales, por lo cual decidí irme por el camino difícil, descartar el flower soft y hacerlas con florecillas recortadas.

Above all I wanted the flowers to hang more naturally and to see more of the individual flowers, so I decided to go the hardest way, discarding the flower soft and making them with a flower puncher.

El troquel que tengo es un poco grande pero es lo que tenía a la mano.

The puncher is a bit big but it is what I had at hand.

Con los dedos húmedos me puse a arrugar las flores lo más posible. No una por una, sino en montón de esta manera no quedarían uniformes. Después de hacer esta tarea por un buen rato, quedó algo así:

With wet fingers I began to wrinkle the flowers as much as possible. Not one by one, but in a bunch, so in this way they would not be uniform. After doing this task for a while, it was something like this:

 Luego es cuestión de mojar los tallos recortados en pegamento y pasarlo por las flores.

Then it is a matter of wetting the cut stems in glue and passing it through the flowers

Con los dedos se va dando forma. Y esto queda:

He quedado mucho más contenta pues los racimos se ven más reales. En la última foto, creo que se aprecia además que matice las flores con un poco de pintura diluida, aquí y allá, intentando que hubiesen diferentes tonos de lila.

I am much happier because the bunches look more real. In the last photo, I think you can also see that I coloured the flowers with a bit of diluted paint, here and there, trying to have different shades of lilac.

La estructura la hice con alambre, cinta de florista y pintura marrón. Esto es a gusto y dependiendo del lugar donde vaya.

I made the structure with wire, florist ribbon and brown paint. This is at your liking and depending on where it is placed.

Fui probando aquí y allá, in situ también, hasta quedar contenta con la ubicación de las flores. No las pegué hasta no estar segura.
I tested here and there, on the spot too, until I was happy with the placement of the flowers. I did not glue them until I was sure.

Luego puse las hojas poco a poco. Hasta quedar satisfecha. 

Then I put the leaves little by little. Until satisfaction.

No fue mi caso. Como pueden ver mi glicina necesita muuuuuchas, muchas más hojas, ramas y flores.

Not my case. As you can see my wisteria needs loooooads of leaves, branches and flowers.

Añadí incluso más ramas con hojas pues hojas tenía muchas pero flores no. Me gusta mucho más el resultado, pero igual sé que necesito ponerme a hacer más flores, en total la planta tiene unos cuarenta racimos, que me llevaron un día completo, pero creo que requiere el doble o más si quiero hacerla lucir real.

I added even more branches with leaves because leaves I had many but flowers I did not. I like the result much more, but still I know I need to make more flowers.  In total the plant has about forty bunches, which took me a full day, but I think it requires double or more if I want to make it look real.

Un truco que probé al agregar las ramas para pegar alambre contra alambre, conseguir un pegado instantáneo y que la rama se mantenga en su lugar fue el de usar cola blanca en el sitio de la unión y mientras se sostiene la rama en la posición deseada se echa una gota de pegamento instantáneo o súper glue. Cuando intenté solo el pegamento instantáneo, tenía que permanecer un buen rato  sosteniendo las ramas hasta que hiciera efecto y sin embargo la unión era frágil y se despegaba con facilidad. Este truco con materiales similares lo vi en un grupo de miniaturas en facebook y la verdad funciona, la mezcla se seca casi que instantáneamente y hasta el momento no se me ha despegado ninguna rama. 

A trick I tried when adding branches, to stick wire against wire, getting an instant bond and making the branch to stay in its place, was white glue at the joint site and while holding the branch in the desired position a little touch of instant glue or super glue. When I tried the instant glue only, I had to hold the branches for a while until it took effect and yet the union was fragile and easily detached. I saw this trick with similar materials  on a Facebook group for miniature flower makers  and it works, the mix dries almost instantaneously and so far no branch has fallen down.

Como he mencionado, mi glicina no está terminada pero creo que ya se ve mucho mejor. Cuando le ponga más racimos y hojas y la haga más frondosa sé que quedará muy bonita. Digamos por lo pronto que mi glicina apenas empieza su floración. Ya les mostraré el resultado final cuando me ponga a ello.

As I mentioned, my wisteria is not finished yet but I think it looks much better. I know it will look very pretty when I finally get to add more bunches and leaves and make it more leafy . Let's say for the moment that my wisteria just begins its flowering. I will show you the final result when I put myself to it.
