Una visita al pasado/ A visit to the past

Hi!

A very suggestive title I bring today. The weekend of the end of April and May the 1st I made a short visit to London, to see my daughter and of course to check on my sister-in-law who as you know lives now in a home. It was only 4 days so we did not have time to do much, but I was lucky and we were able to visit Kristyn Baybars´ shop, which you may have heard about since it is an institution in the world of toys, especially miniatures.

The facade tells us about a very old place, however it is difficult to imagine what is inside. Kristyn is older now, but fortunately her shop still survives and recently they have organised it a little better (it has hundreds and hundreds of miniatures in all possible places) and you can even find it on facebook. It's my 3rd visit and I cannot stop marvelling every time I go, entering is like taking a trip to the past or another dimension. I leave you with the photos I took:

And these were my purchases. More than all, practical things, of mass production, they were at a very good price and will be useful for my next project. I would love to buy the artisan miniatures they have, but my budget was limited. I am satisfied with having visited this magical place. Well, these are my purchases:

And finally, on Sunday we went to a street market near our town and I was lucky to find some miniatures that I took home with me, all the contents on the following picture for 25, what a deal, isn´t it?

Surely my new acquisitions will be transformed in due time, but I am happy with the things I am accumulating for future projects.

There is more, Caro was my representative at the fair of Pola de Siero and she did me the great favor of buying things I wanted, but that I will tell you in the next post.

Hasta pronto. Un abrazo.

Alex

  4. How nice that you've made a trip to London, seeing your daughter, Alexandra, I hope you both did enjoyed it!
I agree with you that facades often don't tell us all, so I can imagine you were surprised seeing this interior with so many wonderful miniature treasures in such a small space in an incredible store. It's a feast for the eyes: so many miniatures and toys tucked away in there, it's a complete hidden paradise for every lover of miniatures and toys!!! Thank you for sharing the pictures with us. Enjoy your wonderful new purchases, Alexandra.
And you did a great deal on the street market, enjoy all of it!
    Besos, Ilona

  13. What a great opportunity Alex. Those photos make the shop look like a mini lover’s dream - and looks like you would need a whole day just to see it all! I hope your daughter is OK.

  14. Thanks for taking us along with you - it was big fun to enjoy your photos (and btw very kind of the owner allowing you to take pictures). This kind of shop would usually have a sign at the entrance "Birgit - keep out!" *LOL* Looking at all those wonders would take several days… I really admire your morale stability to resist all those temptations and to still concentrate on purchases you need. And what a great find at that local market - I'm looking forward to see what you're going to do with your new treasures.

    Hugs
    Birgit

  17. I do hope that I will have the honor to visit Kristyn Bybars' shop some day, I've been hearing about it for years.
The street market finds are also interesting. I have the exact same kitchen dresser as the one in the back of your photo, but don't have any information about the maker.
Will look forward to seeing how you transform your miniatures for use in your projects!

Tus compras geniales!
