He intentado escribir este post antes, pero la verdad tengo poco que mostrar. Creía que con esta casa avanzaría más rápidamente pues todas las paredes van de blanco sin necesidad de empapelar o dar textura. ¡Qué equivocada estaba!
I tried to write this post before, but I really have little to show. I thought that with this house I would move more quickly as all the walls are white, no wallpaper or texture. How wrong I was!
Pintar las paredes me ha tomado muchos días. Estoy pintando con brocha pues no tengo un sitio abierto lo suficientemente amplio donde poder dar pintura en spray sin temor a salpicar en sitios no deseados; las lluvias constantes y la necesidad de dejar secar y lijar después de cada mano de pintura, han hecho esta tarea interminable. Ya llevo, creo, 4 o 5 manos de pintura y todavía creo me falta una más, en fin, es lo que hay.
Painting the walls has taken me many days. I'm painting with a brush because I do not have an open space wide enough to spray paint without fear of splashing unwanted places; constant rains and the need to let dry and sand after each coat of paint, have made this task endless. I have already applied, I think, 4 or 5 coats of paint and I still think that I need one more, well, it is what it is.
Lo que si he terminado ha sido el suelo de la cocina. Mi idea era hacer un suelo de cemento, que están de moda, que se viera usado, un poco industrial y también antiguo.
La inspiración me vino de
Jennifer´s miniatures, esta chica es una ARTISTA, así con mayúsculas. Hace unas cosas preciosas y lo mejor, es tan generosa que publica tutoriales de todos sus proyectos con lujo de detalles y muy bien explicados. Vale la pena seguirla, en facebook podéis encontrarla, os he dejado el enlace.
What I have finished is the kitchen´s floor. My idea was to make a concrete floor, which is trendy now, looking a bit industrial and also old.
The inspiration came from Jennifer's miniatures, this girl is an ARTIST with capital letters. She makes beautiful things and the best part is that she is so generous that she publishes very detailed and well explained tutorials of all her projects. Seguí paso a paso su tutorial, os muestro fotos de los pasos que seguí, pero aunque está en inglés ella lo explica mucho mejor.
I followed her tutorial step by step. I´ll show you photos of the steps I followed, but although in English, she explains it far more better.
Intenté seguir lo más fielmente posible los pasos, sin embargo no tenía suficientes texturas para aplicar, solo algunas plantillas metálicas, abalorios etc. Pero no tenía ni sellos ni molduras. Lo que mejor me resultó fueron las plantillas y restos de encaje. Esto es lo que salió.
I tried to follow the steps as closely as possible, however I did not have enough textures to apply, some metal templates, beads etc. But I did not have stamps or moldings. What I found best were the templates and pieces of lace. This is what came out.
Luego apliqué varias capas de pintura, para intentar dar con el color que buscaba, un gris con destellos marrones.
Then I applied several layers of paint, trying to find the color I was looking for, a gray with brown flashes.
Di una mano de sellante y barniz antes de aplicar la masilla para evitar que se dañara la pintura. Después, rellené las juntas con masilla. En mi caso fue bastante engorroso, pues hay que quitarla con trapo húmedo y por lo menos la masilla que yo usé dejaba bastantes residuos, así que tuve que limpiar bastante. Menos mal había protegido la pintura. Otra cosa que aprendí es que he debido recortar las baldosas un poco más, dejar más espacio entre ellas, creo que hubiera quedado mejor. Mi resultado final.
I gave a coat of sealant and varnish before applying the putty to avoid damaging the paint. Then, I filled the joints with putty. In my case it was quite cumbersome, as the putty needs to be removed carefully with a damp cloth and the one I used left a lot of residue, so I had to clean up a lot. Thank goodness I protected the painting. Another thing I learned is that the tiles need to be cut a little more, to leave more space between them. They would have looked better I think. My final result:
¿Os gusta? Sé que no es tan bonito como el original, pero me gusta. Creo que para ser la primera vez no ha quedado tan mal.
Do you like it? I know it's not as pretty as the original, but I like it. I think that for the first time it is not so bad.
Otra cosa que he hecho es cambiar la superficie de los muebles de cocina. La intención era darle un acabado tipo piedra granito. Tampoco es perfecto, pero no están mal y me gustan. Aunque me está rondando una idea en la cabeza para mejorar el efecto, ya veremos.
Another thing I have done is to change the surface of the kitchen furniture. The intention was to give it a granite stone finish. Neither is perfect, but it´s not so bad and I like it. Although I have an idea in mind on how to improve the effect, we'll see.
Para no perder la costumbre, más fotos de como va tomando forma la cocina, aunque aun falta mucho.
