De vigas y Gertrudis/ About beams and Gertrudis

 Hola!

Casi que pasa febrero y yo sin publicar. Como os dije me quedé sin material, maderitas que necesitaba para hacer las vigas y ante el cierre perimetral de mi pueblo tuve que esperar unas 3 semanas para poder salir a la caza de este. 

Finalmente, pude salir de mi pueblo y semejante decepción. La tienda de bricolaje que me surte de la mayoría de materiales necesarios para mis casitas no tiene los listones de madera que necesitaba. Os juro que no me lo podía creer. 

Ante la necesidad, me fui a mi bazar oriental favorito y tampoco tenía nada en la sección de manualidades, horror! pero como el que busca encuentra, reacia a resignarme me puse a revisar todas las secciones y en la sección de barbacoas encontré unos palillos que podían dar el pego. ¿Qué os parecen? y solo por 1.35€ el paquete, genial!! Compré 4, mejor que sobren.

February is almost gone and I have not published. As I told you, I ran out of wood to make the beams. As my town was on a perimeter closure, I had to wait about 3 weeks to be able to go hunting for this material.

Finally, I could get out of town but had such disappointment. My DIY store that supplies me with most of the materials needed for my little houses did not have the wood I needed. I couldn't believe it.

Then I went to my favourite bazaar shop but they didn't have anything in the crafts section either, how awful! But I was reluctant to give up, so I walked through all the isles and at the barbecue section I found some skewer sticks that could be useful. What do you think? and only for  1.35€ per package, great !! I bought 4, better too much than too little.

Son planos, así que como en la planta baja quiero vigas "gordas" de 1x1, tuve que pegarlos de tres en tres para lograr este efecto. 

They are flat, so since on the ground floor I want "fat" 1x1 beams, I had to glue together three at a time to achieve this effect.

Aquí se ve que mis herramientas son bastante sofisticadas, jaja, pinzas de ropa para mantener las maderitas unidas mientras se seca el pegamento. Detrás se ve cómo va el techo de la primera planta, allí si van planas porque tengo la idea de hacer otra cosa.

Here you can see that my tools are quite sophisticated, lol, clothes pegs to keep the wood pieces together while the glue dries. Behind you can see how the roof of the first floor is going, in there the beams are flat as I have an idea of ​​doing something else.

Y aquí se ve el pasamanos de la escalera. Como es una escalera descubierta y nuestros habitantes son mayores, un pasamanos es fundamental.

Ahora toca el techo de la primera planta,

And here you see the handrail of the stairs. As it is an open staircase and our inhabitants are older, a handrail is essential.

Now is the turn for the first floor ceiling,

No está terminado. Como os dije tengo una idea de poner otra capa de vigas en sentido transversal. Pero, horror!! al ir a probar como encajaba, he descubierto que cometí un terrible error. Las dos paredes laterales encajan en unas hendiduras que lleva el techo. La pared de la izquierda encaja sin problemas, pero en la pared de la derecha al recubrirla en madera por ambas caras, olvidé dejar el espacio para la hendidura y ahora no encaja!!! No os imagináis la decepción, sin embargo cuando David me vio la cara de tragedia, echó un vistazo y me dijo que él recortaría esas piezas con su Dremel y lo arreglaría para que finalmente pueda encajar el techo y continuar. 

It is not finished. As I told you I have an idea to put another layer of beams horizontally. But, oh, no!! Testing the fitting, I discovered that I made a terrible mistake. The two side walls fit into some grooves that the ceiling has. On the left wall it fits ok, but on the right wall, it is covered in wood on both sides, I forgot to leave the space where the groove goes and now does not fit!!! You can't imagine the disappointment. However, when David saw my tragic face, he looked and told me that he would cut out those pieces with his Dremel and fix it so that I could finally fit the ceiling and continue.

Ahh, olvidaba explicar la primera foto de este post. Son las camas que irán en esta cabaña. Una llegó desde Caro, quien me la envió porque andaba buscando dos camas individuales de tamaño adulto que necesitaba. Mi primera compra fue un fracaso, eran camas infantiles, muy pequeñas. Como solo pude conseguir una, decidí hacer la compañera yo misma. 

Ahh, almost forgot to explain the first photo of this post. They are the beds that will go in this cabin. One came from Caro, who sent it to me because I was looking for two adult-size single beds. My first purchase was a failure, they were children's beds, very small. Since I could only get one, I decided to make the other one myself.

Al no tener madera de suficiente grosor, me tocó hacerla con dos capas. No es definitivamente una joya de la carpintería, pero da el pego en mi cabaña.

Since I didn't have enough thick wood, I had to make it with two layers. It is definitely not a jewel of woodworking, but it works for the cabin.

Ahora tengo dos camas individuales rústicas, del mismo modelo y me sirven perfectamente para lo que planeo.

Now I have two rustic single beds, of the same model and they serve me perfectly for what I plan.

Estas han sido mis tribulaciones para continuar con este proyecto y hasta aquí he llegado. Hoy he traído mucho bla, bla, y pocas fotos y avances. Para compensarlo un poco quiero presentaros a Gertrudis, la mujer de Manuel, una creación de Andrea Lloyd Smith, dep, y que hoy atesoro más que nunca. 

These have been my tribulations to continue with this project and this is how far I have come. Today I have brought a lot of blah, blah, and just a few photos and little work. To compensate a little bit, I want to introduce you to Gertrudis, Manuel's wife, a creation of Andrea Lloyd Smith, Rip. Today I treasure her more than ever.

Gertrudis (primera foto, a la izquierda), llegó a mí de la mano de su comadre, quien luego viajó a tierras asturianas a casa de Carolina. Como ven, Gertrudis se ve de mucho carácter y armas tomar y parece que le da 3 vueltas al dulce de Manuel, jajaj.

Gertrudis (first photo, to the left), came to me accompanied by her "comadre", who later travelled to Asturian lands to Carolina's house. As you can see, Gertrudis has a lot of character and is a force to be reckoned with. She seems that she can handle sweet Manuel easily, lol.

Retomando la cabaña/ Back to the cabin

La foto de arriba muestra en donde dejé la cabaña. El próximo paso era terminar la chimenea y hacer la puerta del pequeño aseo.

The photo above shows where I left the cabin. The next step was to finish the fireplace and make the door to the small toilet.

Para la parte superior de la chimenea utilicé el mismo método que me ha funcionado bien y ahorra mucho tiempo y esfuerzo. Recubrí con masilla tapajuntas la superficie de una caja que recorté para dar las medidas necesarias, luego con un elemento punzante hice las formas de las piedras, di textura pinchando en toda la superficie y pinte una base gris. Finalmente maticé con marrones, ocre, terracota, etc.

For the top of the fireplace I used the same method which has worked well for me and saves a lot of time and effort. I covered with putty the surface of a box, cut to the right measurements,  then with a sharp object I made the shapes of the stones, gave texture by tapping on the entire surface and painted a gray base. Finally I tinted with browns, ochre, terracotta, etc.

Aquí podéis ver que ha quedado bien. Obviamente tuve que volver a dar color a la parte de abajo de la chimenea, es lo que pasa cuando haces las piezas a diferentes tiempos.

Here you can see that it has turned out well. Obviously I had to re-color the lower part of the fireplace, that's what happens when you make the pieces at different times.

Ahora el turno es para la puerta que decidí hacer yo misma. 

Now for the door that I decided to make myself.

Utilicé cartón pluma y recubrí ambas caras con cartoncillo para poder luego darle color con tinte al agua y no tener que pintar. La tintura da un color de madera real pero no funciona en cartón pluma.

I used foam board and covered both sides with cardboard to be able to later color it with water dye and to avoid painting. Wood dye gives a nice real wood look but it does not work on foam board.

Para que la puerta sea real de abrir y cerrar decidí hacer bisagras, como todo es rústico las hice con cartón.

To make the door to open and close, I decided to make hinges, as everything is rustic I made them with cardboard.

No es necesario que queden perfectas, ya lo dije, es una cabaña rústica hecha de materiales sobrantes de aquí y allá. Tampoco importa mucho pues solo será visible una parte.

They don't need to be perfect, I already said it, it's a rustic cabin made from leftover materials from here and there. It doesn't really matter much as only a part will be visible.

Y aquí ya tenemos la puerta instalada, pintada (con tintura de madera al agua), las bisagras pintadas de negro. Me gusta, se ve viejuna, rústica y lo más importante, abre y cierra, yupiii.

And here the door is already installed, painted (with water-based wood stain), hinges painted black. I like it, it looks old, rustic and most importantly, it opens and closes, yupiii.

Ahora me pregunto si debo hacer un marco a la puerta, a veces soy así, hago las cosas sin planear y me complico la vida. Porque poner un marco ahora que las paredes están pegadas será más difícil. Sé que al menos voy a intentarlo.

Now I wonder if I should make the door frame. Sometimes I am like that, I do things without planning and I complicate my life as putting a frame now that the walls are glued together will be more difficult. I know that at least I'm going to try.

Después tocaba poner marco a la ventana. Al estar la cabaña localizada junto a un lago, es de suponer que habrán mosquitos y por eso recubrí la ventana con una red de las que vienen con las patatas, a manera de mosquitero y por supuesto también cerré con una lámina de plástico transparente.

Then it was time to frame the window. As the cabin is located next to a lake, it is to be expected that there will be mosquitoes and that is why I covered the window with a net that comes with potatoes, as a mosquito net and of course I also closed it with some transparent plastic.

La estufa que ven, creo, será la definitiva, sin embargo para poder hacerla más realista hice un añadido en fimo para simular el tubo de escape que llega hasta la pared. En este modelo el tubo es recto, ahora falta matizarlo para emparejar el color.

The stove you see, I think, will be the one, however, in order to make it more realistic, I made a fimo addition to simulate the exhaust pipe that reaches the wall. In this model the tube is straight, now it needs to be painted to match the color.

Y estos son mis avances, os muestro una vista más amplia.

Así va quedando, a la planta baja solo le faltan unas vigas en el techo y luego vendrá poner el tejado que llevará también vigas. Sin embargo, esto tendrá que esperar, no tengo suficiente material y no hay una tienda cercana donde comprarlos, estamos cerrados perimetralmente y las tiendas de bricolaje quedan fuera de mi pueblo. A ver qué se me ocurre.

This is how it ´s going so far, the ground floor only needs a few beams on the ceiling and it will be time to put the roof on, it will also have beams. However, this will have to wait, I do not have enough material and there is no nearby store to buy them, we are on closed perimeter and the DIY stores are outside my town. Let's see what I can think of.

Los últimos regalos/ Last gifts

 

Hola!

Antes de seguir con mi cabaña, que ya he retomado luego del parón navideño, quiero traeros los últimos regalos y miniaturas que han llegado a mis manos.

Ya os conté que gané un concurso en un grupo de FB, pues el honor vino con un pequeño premio en metálico que aproveché para comprar un habitante muy importante de mi cabaña. Les presento a Curry, ha sido elaborado por una artesana Ukraniana (Helen de FiberArtBoutiqueUA, en Etsy) y aunque no es articulado, es precioso!!

Before continuing with my cabin, which I have already resumed after the Christmas break, I want to bring you the latest gifts and miniatures that have come into my hands.

I already told you that I won a contest in a FB group. The honor came with a small cash prize and I used it to buy a very important inhabitant of my cabin. I present to you Curry, he was made by an ukranian artisan (Helen of FiberArtBoutiqueUA, in Etsy) and although he is not articulated, is beautiful !!

¿No es hermoso? Aquí lo vemos ya disfrutando de la cabaña aunque no está terminada, los gatos siempre están en el lugar más inoportuno jaja.

Isn´t he beautiful? Here we see him already enjoying the cabin although it is not finished, cats are always in the most inapropiate places lol.

Este año volví a participar en la subasta que organiza en FB Chiqui Cueto en favor de la Fundación protectora de animales de Asturias. Chiqui es una miniaturista maravillosa, una verdadera artista y además amante de los gatos y de los animales, así que que mejor que participar de esta buena obra y de paso intentar traer a casa una preciosa miniatura. Volví a ser afortunada y gané la puja de esta maravillosa pieza de otra increíble artista, Almudena González, os muestro:

This year I participated again in the auction that  Chiqui Cueto organises in FB in favor of the Asturias Animal Protection Foundation. Chiqui is a wonderful miniaturist, a true artist and also a cat and animal lover, so what better than participating in this good work and trying to bring home a beautiful miniature. I was lucky again and won the bid for this wonderful piece by another incredible artist, Almudena González, let me show you:

En la entrada pasada os conté también que mi amigo invisible se retrasaba por culpa de correos, no de ella. Finalmente llegó a mis manos y no se imaginan mi alegría. In the last post I also told you that my secret santa was late because of the postal service, not because of her. It finally came into my hands and you cannot imagine my joy. My secret Santa was Dina who does wonders in px. To say that my jaw dropped and that I´m floating in clouds of happiness is an understatement. I'll show you:

Elfi and his book!!! Aren´t I very lucky? Instead of one calendar, two, one of Casa Carmina and another of our group "Our Miniatures" where with Carmen we share responsibilities as moderators helping Carolina who is the administrator.

No sé cuánto tiempo llevo suspirando por los bols (boles?) de cristales de colores de Carmen, finalmente tengo los míos!!! Y como si fuera poco me manda muchos imprimibles y otros, me dice Carmen, "para llenar la cajita"

Ha! Just writing about my new minis have given me such a high.

Y esto es todo... ah! el pasado 16 de enero mi blog cumplió 4 años!! Quién lo hubiese imaginado, intenté publicar ese día pero finalmente no pude. Sin embargo es tradición de este blog hacer un sorteo, las tradiciones hay que respetarlas, si son buenas, claro! He estado muy ocupada y un poquitín estresada en el trabajo y realmente no he preparado nada, pero he visto que mis alfombras gustan. Entonces ese será el regalo, la persona ganadora podrá escoger 2 de mis alfombras, las que prefiera de los diseños que podéis encontrar en entradas anteriores, o algún diseño o colores a petición si así lo queréis.
